MARC: Plant Data for Material

MM

MARC stores plant-level material data. There is one row per material and plant combination, holding settings such as the MRP group and MRP controller, reorder point, safety stock and the purchasing group. A material has to be extended to a plant, which creates its MARC row, before it can be planned or procured there.

How the MARC key works

The primary key is MANDT, MATNR and WERKS. Every MARC row belongs to a parent row in MARA with the same MATNR, so a missing MARC row for a plant means the material has not been extended to that plant.

MARC fields

FieldType / data elementLengthDescription
πŸ”‘MANDTCLNT3Client

EISBEEISBE13Safety Stock

This is a curated subset of the most commonly used fields, not the complete table definition. A real system contains more fields and can differ by release and customizing, so confirm the definition in transaction SE11 before relying on it.

Example ABAP SELECT for MARC

" Open SQL applies the client (MANDT) automatically, so it is not part of the WHERE clause.
DATA lv_matnr TYPE marc-matnr.

SELECT werks, ekgrp, disgr, dispo
  FROM marc
  WHERE matnr = @lv_matnr
  INTO TABLE @DATA(lt_marc).

Modern Open SQL with host variables (ABAP 7.40 and later). Need a different field list or conditions? Build it in the ABAP SELECT Builder.

Tables related to MARC

  • MARA (joined on MATNR): Parent table with the cross-plant material data.
  • MBEW (joined on MATNR + WERKS): Valuation data when valuation is at plant level (MBEW-BWKEY equals the plant).
  • EKPO (joined on MATNR + WERKS): Purchase order items for the material in a plant.
  • MSEG (joined on MATNR + WERKS): Goods movements for the material in a plant.
  • T001W (joined on WERKS): Plant master data.

Practical tips for MARC

  • To list every plant a material is extended to, select WERKS from MARC where MATNR equals the material number.
  • MINBE (reorder point) and EISBE (safety stock) are quantities in the base unit of measure, which is stored in MARA-MEINS.
  • Storage-location data sits one level below, in MARD. MARC only holds plant-level values.

MARC FAQ

What is the primary key of MARC?

MANDT, MATNR and WERKS: one row per material and plant.

How do I find out which plants a material is maintained in?

Select WERKS from MARC where MATNR equals the material number. Each returned row is a plant the material has been extended to.
