MBEW: Material Valuation

MM

MBEW holds the valuation data of a material: the price control indicator, standard price, moving average price and price unit, per valuation area and valuation type. It is the table to read when you need the cost or inventory price of a material.

How the MBEW key works

The primary key is MANDT, MATNR, BWKEY and BWTAR. BWKEY is the valuation area. It equals the plant when valuation is at plant level and the company code when valuation is at company-code level, so do not assume BWKEY and WERKS are interchangeable. BWTAR (valuation type) is blank unless split valuation is used.

This is a curated subset of the most commonly used fields, not the complete table definition. A real system contains more fields and can differ by release and customizing, so confirm the definition in transaction SE11 before relying on it.

Example ABAP SELECT for MBEW

" Open SQL applies the client (MANDT) automatically, so it is not part of the WHERE clause.
DATA lv_matnr TYPE mbew-matnr.
DATA lv_bwkey TYPE mbew-bwkey.

SELECT bwtar, vprsv, stprs, verpr
  FROM mbew
  WHERE matnr = @lv_matnr
    AND bwkey = @lv_bwkey
  INTO TABLE @DATA(lt_mbew).

Modern Open SQL with host variables (ABAP 7.40 and later). Need a different field list or conditions? Build it in the ABAP SELECT Builder.

Tables related to MBEW

  • MARA (joined on MATNR): Cross-plant material master.
  • MARC (joined on MATNR + WERKS): Plant data, linked through BWKEY when valuation is at plant level.
  • MSEG (joined on MATNR + WERKS): Goods movements that change the stock value.

Practical tips for MBEW

  • VPRSV decides which price applies: S means the standard price (STPRS) is used, V means the moving average price (VERPR).
  • Prices are stated per price unit PEINH. Divide the price by PEINH before multiplying it by a quantity.
  • For materials without split valuation, add BWTAR = space to the WHERE clause to get one row per valuation area.

MBEW FAQ

How do I get the standard price of a material?

Read STPRS from MBEW for the material and valuation area (BWKEY) and divide it by PEINH to get the price per unit. It is the price in use when VPRSV is S.

What is the difference between STPRS and VERPR?

STPRS is the standard price, which stays fixed until it is changed. VERPR is the moving average price, which is updated by goods and invoice receipts. VPRSV tells you which of the two controls valuation for the material.
